And Soooo Quiet!, W8YYY
| W8YYY | Rating: 5/5 | May 30, 2002 15:34 | | | And Soooo Quiet! | Time owned: 0 to 3 months | This is a great midsize amplifier. I have owned several amps before this jewel (Quadra – AL1200 – Clipperton L). All of these are nice units, but there was always something that I didn’t like about them. Not so with this baby. After reading all the reviews on the 1000, I called Will and place my order. I was put on a waiting list and my check was held in escrow until the amp was shipped. After 4 weeks my unit arrived at my door. What a great amplifier. It is nearly as easy to tune as many of the solid-state units. My IC756PRO sees 50 ohms on all bands 160 to 6 meters and the amp loads into the 8 element log periodic no problem. 55 Watts will get you 1000 Watts out and it is soooo quiet! Would I buy another? You bet! |

WOW, Quality amp!, N2WB
| N2WB | Rating: 5/5 | May 30, 2002 11:47 | | | WOW, Quality amp! | Time owned: 0 to 3 months | Its a 5 PLUS! In operation, looks and engineering it lives up to its reputation. It was very easy to set up and even easier to learn to operate. You are always a bit nervous when working with a new piece of equipment. After a few tries tuning the amp I can really appreciate the way this amp loads. It is so quick and nearly fool-proof. The engineering is GREAT. Unit is going with me on my next DXPEDITION, very nice all in one unit for trips. Will at ACOM was great to deal with. Via E-mail , phone calls and at Dayton Hamvention Very HIGH "Q" and is a keeper! |
Gorgeous inside and out, N7YW
| N7YW | Rating: 5/5 | Mar 2, 2002 12:07 | | | Gorgeous inside and out | Time owned: 0 to 3 months | This amp is solid, beautifully constructed, and has great "gee-whiz" appeal with its 15 different LCD readouts, from exhaust air temperature to output power to dB gain. Tunes quickly, and protects against overdrive by automatically switching in a 6 dB pad if you're too far mistuned. Driven with 45~50w, I see 1000~1150w to the antenna. On a city lot, with low antennas fed by Mini 8X, I figure one KW is just right. People say it's expensive: price out the "Brand AL-" single 4CX800A _PLUS_ QSK box _PLUS_ heavy duty transmatch (you need all three to equal the ACOM) and at $2,503.30 (delivered to Oregon) you'll see the ACOM 1000 is actually less. My favorite parts: the blower is quieter than either my computer fan or Kenwood PS-40 power supply, and I hear no relay noise whatsoever when QSK. |
Just Plain Perfect, KG6ENA
| KG6ENA | Rating: 5/5 | Apr 14, 2002 10:31 | | | Just Plain Perfect | Time owned: 0 to 3 months | I agonized over which amp to buy for several months. After reading almost every review on this website and others, I decided to pony up the cash and get the ACOM 1000. I am VERY glad I did. The amp is simply perfect! Every review below is totally accurate. Acom support is also very good, and Krassey (one of the people at Acom, (i think that's the spelling)) is a kick to talk to and seems like a genuinely great guy. He was very helpful in answering my questions before I made my purchase decision, and in helping me set up the amp and learn about its functions. The short of it is that the amp is worth every penny. You deserve the best, do yourself a favor and do what I did: get an Acom for your birthday! |
ACOM 1000 by YA8G

| | Traveling in turbulent areas for the UN requires me to possess ham radio equipment with sturdiness, reliability and a reasonable size and weight. The harsh environment often includes extreme temperature variations, lots of dust, fluctuating voltage levels, high humidity and rough handling when traveling. From several years of operating in these areas, I’ve found the ACOM products to give a sovereign performance and value for money, and I have tried quite a few products. From my last operation in Afghanistan – maybe one of the toughest environments for radio equipment – I chose the ACOM 1000 as my amplifier. It acted flawlessly throughout my entire stay, performing under the most challenging conditions conceivable. It helped me to achieve numerous goals I set during my YA8G activity, among others my 160m contacts with North America from the steep mountain surrounded city of Kabul. As a result from this amplifier’s impressive performance ability, also Bob/YA1RS, Sada/YA1D and Nick/YA4F made the ACOM 1000 as their companion. No doubt what to put in my suitcase for the next mission! 73 es CUL de Johnny LA5IIA. |
